HOW EQUAL AND FAIR IS THAT YOU KNOW WHAT THAT SMELLS LIKE DISCRIMINATION AT ITS CORE. FOLKS DO YOUR SELFS A FAVOR AND DO NOT GIVE LINDSEY YOUR BUSINESS NOR TIME. I did not want to make the surgery appointment, since she had been about to give my cat a clean bill of health and leave before I asked about the teeth. The next checkup, the (different) vet said that my cat's teeth were fine, and definitely didn't need to be removed. My cat's mouth has been fine for nine years now and I'm wondering if she ever needed the first teeth removal at all, or if I had been unnecessarily pressured into that. The second negative experience was last year. The same cat developed a food allergy (later found to be a poultry allergy), and I knew the next step in diagnosing what was causing the allergy was starting her on a hydrolyzed protein diet for a while. I wanted to okay this with a vet, so I during her checkup I asked if starting a hydrolyzed protein diet was the correct next step. The vet immediately went into a 30-minute lecture on what a hydrolyzed protein diet was, with a side rant about people who put their pets on gluten-free diets. I already knew what a hydrolyzed protein diet was, I had no interest in a gluten-free pet diet, and I tried multiple times to explain this to the vet. Every time I spoke, he talked over me without acknowledging I had said anything. It was clear he had a very low opinion of me, and the whole experience was incredibly demeaning. The vet finished by saying he would tell the front desk to give me a sample of a hydrolyzed protein diet to see if my cat would eat it, and then he immediately left. The front desk told me they had never carried samples of that food and had no idea what the vet was talking about. The Ugly: It's a complete toss-up about what kind of care you'll get here. Either you'll have the loveliest, most accommodating and caring people you could possibly want, or you'll get someone incredibly demeaning who'll send up all your red flags. I've had far more good experiences here than bad, but the bad experiences have been really, really bad. I'm still taking my pets here for the time being, but I'm being cautious about it.

I said I didn’t think I should wait that long. She advised to call the ER vet if conditions worsened. She called back the next day with news that they could see me sooner, but still a week out. My cat showed quick signs of improvement so I took it. She wrote "check leg" in the appt. description which I felt wasn’t accurate. My cat saw Dr. Schreiber (waited about 45 mins), did a blood test, he told me when he'd be in touch with results, didn’t hear back, I followed up twice, no call back. End of Sept.: 2 wks after my sister's 1st visit, her dog was worse and now also in pain. Valley Vet couldn't see him until the next week but suggested the pain might be arthritis and offered pain meds. My sister instead called Phoenixville Animal Hospital who recognized the urgency and scheduled him right away. They discovered, by hand, a mass in his stomach, advised an ultrasound which showed a massive tumor that was not detected by Valley Vet 2 wks prior. The following day he went into emergency surgery and did not survive. I looked into the Valley Vet dr. who initially treated him and saw that she's 2 years out of school. She wasn't able to articulate the value of an xray or blood work to support any potential investigation or discoveries other than to see if the dog ate an object, she was not able to detect a large tumor, nor was she able to connect the dots between the symptoms. She also was not overseen by an experienced dr. while treating a worsening symptomatic case. In conversations with Schreiber I found he was unfamiliar with the dog's case and asked for time to review the files from his practice and the ER vet. He then claimed to have spent more time on this file than most others, but he still struggled to understand the timeline and what happened due to confusing file notes and the history of phone calls. He made it clear that he had dedicated too much of his time to this case by indicating exactly how many minutes we had been on the phone with me (42 minutes to finally discuss my cat's blood results, the details of a deceased case, and his ongoing wax poetic). He was sympathetic and acknowledged where the young dr. fell short and alluded that neither the xray nor blood test would've indicated definitive information, had they been done. He speculated even if the dr. had found the lump the dog still wouldn’t have made it. It felt like a CYA comment to defend his dr.'s mistakes. He may be right about the outcome, maybe not, but his practice is not only about treating animals. They are also informing, educating and guiding pet owners and this was not a service that was provided to my sister's case, or mine. She unknowingly sat on an advancing cancer in a suffering pet. Valley Vet's staff wasn't able to detect the illness or receive the case with urgency and my sister was not prepared to suddenly lose a pet within 24 hours of another vet being able to make a diagnosis. Dr. Schreiber did NOT offer an apology and talked about hindsight being 20/20. My impression is they have an inexperienced staff, they are struggling to keep up with patient load, and Dr. Schreiber is spread too thin to oversee the practice.
